This bulk set is great for gifting or for stocking up your own pantry. Each kit makes 6 serves of Butter Chicken the way it is meant to be.

Cook with the original recipe from the restaurant that first invented this dish. Finest quality spices pre-portioned for fantastic results every time. Just add your own fresh ingredients.

Each kit contains 13 finest quality herbs and spices to make 1.5 kg Butter Chicken. 

Kashmiri Red Chilli, Himalayan Rock Salt, Cloves, Black Pepper, Star Anise, Nutmeg, Mace, Cinnamon, Cardamom, Cumin, Fenugreek leaves, Ginger Powder, Garlic Powder.

 

To make 6 serves of Butter Chicken you will need:

Chicken thigh fillets – 1 kg, Light thickened cream – 300 ml, Tomato paste – 140 g, Plain Greek yogurt – 1 tbsp, Honey, Butter and Salt to taste.

Vegetarian option – 600 g paneer (Indian cottage cheese)

Vegan option – 600 g tofu/cauliflower/mushrooms/potatoes, 300 ml coconut cream, sugar, cooking oil.

The Butter Chicken story

Butter Chicken was first invented over 70 years ago in an Old Delhi restaurant called Moti Mahal. The restaurant was famous for it's Tandoori Chicken - whole chicken marinated with spices and grilled in a very hot clay oven.

When certain cuts of the whole chicken didn't move fast enough, the chefs came up with a creamy spiced tomato sauce. They popped pieces of Tandoori Chicken into the sauce and called the dish 'Butter Chicken'. The rest as they say is history.

At Spicecraft we followed Butter Chicken right to it's source.

After sampling a lot of Butter Chicken at Moti Mahal and discreet chats with their chefs, we worked out a recipe that captures the flavoursome essence of the original dish while keeping it simple to make.

Inside the Spice Kit: Butter Chicken Spices

Each kit comes with 13 herbs and spices pre-mixed into 4 separate sachets. As different spices cook differently, each sachet goes in at different stages so you build layers of complex flavour as you cook.

We use only the finest spices from around the world. The spices are roasted, ground, blended and packed right here in Sydney to ensure maximum quality and freshness.

No artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. Everything in the kit is gluten and nut free.

Inside the Spice Kit: Butter Chicken Recipe and Shopping List

In addition to the spice mixes in the kit, you will need some fresh ingredients like chicken/veg, tomato paste and honey.

Once you've gathered all the ingredients, just follow the easy colour coded steps according to the included recipe. It does take a bit of time as you're cooking everything from scratch but the results are so worth the effort.

Serve with some buttery naan bread or steamed Basmati rice.

Tips

Freezing

Not cooking for 6? This Butter Chicken is great for freezing. The cooked Butter Chicken will keep for upto 3 months in the freezer or 2 days in the fridge. In fact leftovers taste even better the next day as the flavours get a chance to develop.

Make it milder

Prefer it milder? Cook the Butter Chicken as per the original recipe, then add in a few dollops of cream or plain yogurt just before serving. This lets you adjust the heat level to individual tastes. Do not use yogurt if you wish to reheat it later.

Flavour and consistency

If the sauce looks a bit runny, cook uncovered for another 10-15 mins after adding the cooked chicken. You want thick a saucy consistency. For best results, use light thickened cream; the fat in full cream dulls the flavour.

I am a vegetarian so my partner and I do 1/2 chicken & 1/2 cauliflower. This is the best Butter Chicken recipe you will ever experience in your life time
