A Butter Chicken Feast for Six

Butter Chicken was first invented over 70 years ago in an Old Delhi restaurant called Moti Mahal famous for it’s Tandoori Chicken (whole chicken marinated with spices and grilled in a very hot clay oven). The chef came up with a creamy spiced tomato sauce, popped some pieces of Tandoori Chicken into it and called it Butter Chicken. The rest as they say is history.

After sampling a lot of Butter Chicken at Moti Mahal and discreet chats with their chefs, we worked out a recipe that captures the flavoursome essence of the original dish while keeping it simple to make.

Now it does take a bit of time as you’re cooking everything from scratch. Just follow the easy colour coded steps; the results are so worth the effort.


The kit comes with 13 herbs and spices pre-mixed into 4 separate sachets. As different spices cook differently, each mix goes in at different stages so you build layers of lip smacking flavour as you cook.

We use only the finest spices from around the world. The spices are roasted, ground, blended and packed right here in Sydney to ensure maximum quality and freshness.

No artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. Everything in the kit is gluten and nut free.

Butter Chicken and Saffron Rice are a match made in heaven.

To make the rice, the kit comes with aged Basmati Rice and a small jar of grade 1 Persian Saffron.

Steep the saffron in hot water. When the water turns golden yellow, use this liquid to cook the rice.  

Mango Rose Lassi

Finally, Mango Rose Lassi to round off the meal.

The lassi mix is made with organic edible rose dust and spiced cardamom sugar.

Just add a scoop of this mix to some yogurt and a fruit of your choice and blend for 30 seconds for a delicious drink.

Traditionally lassi is made with ripe mangoes, but it works just as well with blueberries, strawberries or even plain.

All the dry ingredients you need are pre-portioned for the recipe in the kit.

All you need is a few simple fresh ingredients listed in the recipe booklet – chicken, cream, tomato paste etc.

It does take a bit of time to cook the complete meal as you are making everything from scratch, but the results are well worth the effort.

If you are not cooking for six, make the Butter Chicken in one go and freeze the rest.


If you’re not cooking for 6, this Butter Chicken freezes really well for up to 3 months so you can get multiple meals out it. In fact it tastes even better the next time. Great for meal prepping.

Adjusting Spiciness

For a milder flavour, cook the Butter Chicken as per the recipe, then add in a few dollops of cream just before serving. This way you can adjust the heat to individual preferences.   

Flavour and consistency

If the sauce looks a bit runny, cook uncovered for 5-10 mins until it thickens. 
It is really important to use light thickened cream as the fat in full cream will dull the flavour.

This is the best butter chicken that I have ever made. Just the right amount of spice with some raita on the side. I have now ordered some for my whole extended family! It was so easy to make and makes a generous amount per meal kit

The flavours are simply the best. The instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. We suggest having 2 people help with the cooking, there are a few steps to follow but well worth the unforgettable Indian experience.
